Green Day is a pop/punk band formed in 1988 in Berkeley, California after members of Sweet Children and Lookouts came together at a party -
They recorded their debut EP, 1,000 Hours in 1989 – and changed their name to Green Day soon afterwards -
Their firs album, 1039/Smooth was released in 1990 -
Began to add theatrics to their live shows while on tour in Europe, which started at the Wigan Social Club where the band staged the nativity scene during the performance.

Had a lot of success with the albums Kerplunk in 1991 and Dookie in 1994. -
In 1994, their appearance at the Woodstock festival caused a huge mud fight between the band and the spectators, which resulted in four of Dirnt’s front teeth being knocked out -
Had their most successful album in 2004, American Idiot, which won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album (and five other nominations) – then followed this up by winning seven awards at the MTV Music Video Awards
in 2005.
